Yellina Chitranna | How to make Sesame Lemon Rice

Yellina Chitranna

Yellina Chitranna is our humble lemon rice all decked up. This easy lemon rice is made more interesting with roasted spice powder.

I was inspired by Suma’s post on Yellina Chitranna. Yellu is sesame seeds in Kannada and Lemon Rice is called Chitranna, so this simple rice is made more interesting with the roasted sesame powder, urad dal and grated coconut. It surely makes a wonderful lunch box dish.

As always the month has simply breezed us by and we are on the penultimate post and what a month its been! I am so happy I have finally managed to cook all the dishes I had planned.

This delicious mixed rice was part of the Saturday lunch I made with Ellu Sadam, Urad Dal Rice. This was first of the series where I had done multiple dishes and it really gave me the confidence that I could really plan multiple dishes and yes I did this for 3 to 4 dishes later on in the month.

Yellina Chitranna is the pick for Y in the AtoZ Quick Under 30 Minutes, which is my theme in the Biryanis, Pulaos, Khichdis and Mixed Rices. If you want to read some elaborate Biryanis, check out what I have for Y in Spice your Life!

  1. Wow, you had cook over 50 dishes this month and kudos to your patience to try a bunch at once. The sesame seeds’ addition definitely makes the lemon rive more flavorful.

  2. The sesame seeds give a wonderful crunch to the rice and gives it a healthy twist too .
And I like that rice platter , they are all simple recipes but we all look for easy and simple ones for everyday ones, right ?

  3. Never used Sesame powder in rice, will love to try it someday.. I love the spice powder.. guess we can use it in other dishes also.
